UFC welterweight contender Demian Maia can’t seem to catch a break.
After battling for years to finally earn a shot at the UFC Welterweight title, it appears he has suffered an injury and will not get the next title opportunity at 170 pounds.
Instead, sources close to Woodley, say he has been offered a title fight against Jorge Masvidal.
Last month, at UFC 211, Maia won a split decision against Masvidal. Since Maia can not fight in the title fight he earned, the UFC will instead give the shot to the man many believed should have won the fight.
If the fight is made official, it is expected to take place at UFC 215 on Aug. 19.
UFC 215 was expected to be headlined by the record-breaking title defense of UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson. However, with “Mighty Mouse” having issues with the UFC, the promotion may need to find a new main event.
