Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz wants a rematch with UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt.
Last December, at UFC 207, Garbrandt won a decision against Cruz and beat him for his title. Prior to the loss, Cruz had been unbeaten in almost a decade.
“I want that rematch,” Cruz told TMZ. “Cody is hurt. I know where that guy is at. The pressure is on him right now. I’ve been hurt as a champion. Being somebody who had their belt taken from me for bein injured for so long, or for so many consecutive injuries, I know exactly where he is at. Welcome to being a champ is what I have to say. That’s the thing, you’re facing the best guys in the world. Can your body maintain? He hasn’t even defended the title yet. I came back after a three-year layoff, to defend the title three times in a row, and to lose it on the third time. This is the game we play. You have to stay busy. You have to stay active.”
Garbrandt was scheduled to defend his title against former champion TJ Dillashaw on July 8 at UFC 213. However, Garbrandt is suffering from a back injury and was forced to withdraw from the fight.
