UFC light heavyweight contender Alexander Gustafsson put his rivalry with former champion Jon Jones aside and sent a heartfelt message to Jones after learning about the death of Jones’ mother.
This week, Jones’ mother passed away after suffering complications due to diabetes.
“Really sorry for the loss of your dear mother. My prayers are with you and your family,” Gustafsson said in a tweet to Jones.
The rivalry between Gustafsson and Jones has become more intense as of late. Both fighters have insulted each other on social media. Gustafsson has been claiming Jones uses performance-enhancing drugs and is not a good person, while Jones has been insulting Gustafsson’s fighting abilities.
Last month, Gustafsson knocked out Glover Teixeira to solidify himself as the top contender for the UFC light heavyweight title.
On July 29, at UFC 214, Jones will have an opportunity to win back his title when he fights UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier in the main event.
