Justin Buchholz, the head coach of Team Alpha Male, recently shared his thoughts on a potential title fight between UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson and TJ Dillashaw.
Dillashaw was scheduled to fight TAM’s Cody Garbrandt for his UFC Bantamweight Championship, but a back injury forced Garbrandt to withdraw from the fight.
Since he couldn’t fight Garbrandt, Dillashaw began campaigning for a title fight against Johnson.
The UFC has said they want to make the flyweight title fight, but Johnson does not believe Dillashaw deserves a shot at the 125-pound title because Dillashaw has never fought in the weight class.
“Why does TJ vs. Demetrious make any sense at all?” Buchholz said, on a recent episode of Stud Radio, about the potential fight. “Demetrious has the right to take a fight or not take a fight. You’re not a slave to the promotion. At the end of the day, he’s going to decide whether he fights or not. He won the belt and defended it 10 (expletive) times. If someone says ‘hey you have to defend the belt against this actor.’ I’d say ‘(expletive) you’ and throw that belt in the trash.”
