UFC flyweight Ian McCall has been cleared by USADA in regards to a potential violation back in February.
McCall has been given a retroactive therapeutic use exemption (TUE) by USADA after using two IVs prior to his scheduled fight at UFC 208. McCall needed the IVs after becoming ill just hours before his scheduled fight.
IVs are banned by USADA which is why McCall was given a temporary suspension.
On Friday, USADA sent out a statement regarding McCall’s case.
“After a thorough investigation of the circumstances surrounding the potential violation, which included the retroactive TUE application process, USADA determined that the athlete had a diagnosed acute medical condition for which the use of an intravenous infusion is consistent with the standard of care,” the statement read. “Because McCall’s TUE application was granted retroactively, his use of a prohibited method will not result in an anti-doping policy violation.”
McCall has not fought in the UFC for over two years. He has been arguably the most cursed UFC fighter of all time.
Since his fight in Jan. 2015, McCall has had five straight fights canceled just days or hours before the fight was scheduled to take place. Some of these cancellations were due to McCall getting sick or injured, while others were canceled because of issues with his opponent.
