Former UFC title challenger Kenny Florian has shared his thoughts on the current situation between the UFC and UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson.
Johnson is upset with the UFC over the way the promotion has been treating him. He is upset with his compensation, his lack of promotion, and them trying to force him to defend his title against former UFC Bantamweight Champion TJ Dillashaw.
Johnson does not want to fight Dillashaw because he doesn’t believe he deserves a shot at the title. Dillashaw has never fought in the flyweight division. Johnson is also worried about Dillashaw not being able to make weight.
After talking to UFC President Dana White, Johnson revealed the UFC figurehead threatened to dissolve the 125-pound division if Johnson refused to fight Dillashaw.
“What fight is bigger than him versus TJ Dillashaw,” Florian said on his podcast.
“He can make some decisions that might be better for his career. I don’t necessarily know if that’s the right choice, but I do know TJ Dillashaw has a lot of respect in the mixed martial arts community. He is considered to be one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.”
Florian also went on to say he understands Johnson’s point of view. In the video below, you can hear all of Florian’s comments on this issue.
