UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor will attempt to shock the world when he fights Floyd “Money” Mayweather in a boxing match.
However, McGregor isn’t the first high-profile MMA fighter to leave the sport and compete against the best of another combat sport.
Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson once stepped into the world of kickboxing and fought Cyril Abidi, who is former boxing and kickboxing champion.
Jackson took less than two minutes to knock out the decorated kickboxer back in 2002. Later in the year, “Rampage” fought Abidi in a rematch and went on to win a decision.
Since McGregor has no professional boxing experience, it is unlikely that he will be able to defeat one of the greatest boxers of all time. However, you shouldn’t underestimate the experience McGregor has inside the MMA cage. MMA fighters have proven in the past that their skills can be superior to those of other martial arts.
Mayweather vs. McGregor is set to take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
