ONE Welterweight Champion Ben Askren has been dominant throughout his MMA career.
At one point in time, Askren was the biggest free agent in the world of MMA. He was leaving Bellator as their 170-pound champion and was going to test himself elsewhere.
Instead of signing with the UFC, or World Series of Fighting, Askren signed with a relatively new promotion ONE Championship.
Once joining ONE, Askren wasted little time becoming the promotion’s welterweight champion.
Askren picked up right where he left off in Bellator when he joined ONE. In his first fight, he defeated his opponent in less than one round to earn himself a shot at the championship.
On Aug. 29, 2014, Askren fought then-champion Nobutatsu Suzuki for the title. Askren went on to give one of his most impressive performance in his MMA career. The undefeated fighter took less than 90 seconds to defeat his opponent by TKO and win the title.
