UFC strawweight contender Rose Namajunas received a black eye while training with top women’s bantamweight contender Valentina Shevchenko.
Both Namajunas and Shevchenko shared photos on their Instagram pages that show Namajunas’ showing off the injured eye. Photos from both fighters can be seen below.
Shevchenko is currently training for her first title opportunity in the UFC. On July 8, at UFC 213, Shevchenko will fight UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes in the main event. This will be a rematch from Shevchenko’s first, and only, loss in the UFC. In March 2016, Nunes won a decision against Shevchenko at UFC 196.
Namajunas may also be training for a UFC title opportunity. She is likely to be next in line to fight UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Namajunas is coming off a submission win over Michelle Waterson back in April. Namajunas is currently the highest ranked strawweight in the UFC who has yet to fight Jedrzejczyk for her title.
