There was a lot of controversy surrounding the finish from this Sunday’s UFC Fight Night main event.
Lightweight prospect Kevin Lee defeated Michael Chiesa in the main event by submission after securing a rear-naked choke. However, referee Mario Yamasaki stopped the fight before Chiesa had tapped out or went unconscious.
While many fans, fighters, and media were upset with the early stoppage, slow motion footage of the fight shows that Chiesa’s body had gone limp.
When Yamasaki stopped the fight, Chiesa immediately protested screaming that he hadn’t tapped. Had Yamasaki had waited for just a second or two longer, Chiesa may not have been able to protest.
In the video below, you can see the finish to the fight in slow motion and make your own decision on whether or not Yamasaki made the right call.
