Sterling Reacts To Having To Fight Up In Weight, Thanks To Barao’s Ban From 135

UFC bantamweight contender Aljamain Sterling isn’t going to let the California State Athletic Commission stop him from fighting a former UFC champion.

The CSAC is not allowing former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao cut down to 135 pounds in order to fight Sterling at UFC 214 in Anaheim, California.

After a short stint as a featherweight, Barao was scheduled to return to the bantamweight division when he fought Sterling. Now, the CSAC will not let Barao fight below 140 pounds, according to Barao.

“Looks like the commission is making the weight cut easier for Barão,” Sterling wrote on his Instagram account. “Bantamweight, featherweight, or catchweight, it doesn’t matter to me! Either way the commission isn’t gonna stop me from putting this guy on his back and dropping some hellbows on his face! Lets see who wants this (expletive) more!!! YOU HAD YOUR TIME!!

UFC 214 will take place July 24 at the Honda Center in Anaheim. UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title against Jon Jones in the main event.
