On Saturday, at UFC 212, MMA legend Vitor Belfort earned a decision win over former title challenger Nate Marquardt.
Going into the fight, there was speculation of Belfort retiring after the fight. However, during his post-fight interview, not only is Belfort not retiring, he plans on fighting five more times.
Belfort’s current UFC contract has one more fight, but “The Phenom” is confident he will get a new deal with the world’s premiere MMA organization.
“That’s the place I want to be, and a lot of things we can change,” Belfort said at the post-fight press conference. “We can come with the legends league. A lot of things can change.”
Prior to his win, Belfort was winless in his last three UFC fights. He suffered TKO losses to Kelvin Gastelum, Gegard Mousasi, and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. However, his fight with Gastelum was later ruled a no-contest due to Gastelum testing positive for marijuana use.
“I have a great team that represents me, and I’m sure my role is to make the UFC not only entertaining but a great sport,” Belfort said. “We both have to grow together – the fighters and the UFC.
“I believe our sport has a lot of room to grow, and UFC is the place, and the people there, the new (owners), they’re very smart. I believe we’re going to see big things ahead.”
