UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem recently shared some harsh words towards MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko.
In June, Emelianenko made his Bellator MMA debut. At Bellator: NYC, at Madison Square Garden, Emelianenko was knocked out by heavyweight contender Matt Mitrione.
Overeem was asked about Emelianenko’s performance during media day for this year’s UFC International Fight Week.
“Fedor had a great run from 2002 to 2005. People say he was unbeaten for 10 years, but after 2005, who did he fight?” Overeem said. “He fought cans. He declined to fight me on two occasions in 2009 and 2010.”
From 2001 until 2010, Emelianenko was unbeaten as a heavyweight in the world of MMA. Between the years 2002 to 2005, Emelianenko picked up notable wins against fighters such as Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Heath Herring, Yuji Nagata, Mark Coleman, and Kevin Randleman.
After 2005, Emelianenko’s win streak continued and her earned MMA wins against fighters such as Mark Hunt, Tim Sylvia, and Andrei Arlovski.
Overeem is scheduled to fight former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum on July 8 at UFC 213 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
