Alistair Overeem Doesn’t Think Countrywoman GDR Was Ever A Real Champion

Former UFC featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie had her title stripped after she decided to drop to her native weight class, rather than defend her belt. Now the belt will be up for grabs at UFC 213 this weekend. UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem recently gave his thoughts on “The Iron Lady’s” short reign as champion.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Overeem explained that he believes “The Iron Lady” may have been picking her opponents.

“This is a sensitive topic. I have no idea what happened. I’m not in touch with her. I’ve never really been in touch with her. I don’t know what happened. It’s very strange.

“There’s one thing for sure. She did not want to fight Cyborg. She made pretty harsh statements. I don’t believe for her to make. She lost the belt.

“I heard some rumors that Germaine didn’t want to fight another Dutch girl. I heard a little bit that Germaine kind of avoided to fight her as well. I don’t know if there’s any truth to it. But if you’re picking your opponents, that doesn’t look good at all. Now she’s not champion anymore. That’s her penalty.

“She fought a man, but what kind of man? I know some men that can’t fight.

“But there’s another thing… I think That Holly Also beat her. I don’t think that Germaine, and I’m dutch, I thought that Holly got that fight. She had cage control. She dropped her with two kicks. There were illegal Shots. Holly actually won that fight.”
