Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar may not be battling it out in the octagon anymore, but that doesn’t mean he’s done throwing guys around for a living. Lesnar defended his WWE Universal title against the always tough Samoa Joe in one of the most anticipated matches the WWE has put together this year. Joe earned the number one contender spot, and his chance to face Lesnar for the title, after winning a fatal 5-way match at WWE Extreme Rules.
The two heavy hitters went at it on the WWE “Great Balls of Fire” pay per view tonight on the WWE Network after weeks of buildup that saw Samoa Joe get the better of Lesnar, and his “advocate” Paul Heyman, on numerous episodes of WWE Monday Night Raw. Joe wasted no time and went right after Lesnar, knocking him through a table before the bell had a chance to even ring, but the advantage was short lived before Lesnar handed him a first class ticket to Suplex City.
The two big men had a hard fought back and forth match with Samoa Joe having the champion in big trouble from beginning to end, but ultimately Lesnar caught Joe with his patented “F-5” finisher to get the pin and retain the championship.
