Two of the biggest rivals in MMA have finally said nice things about each other.
During an interview, FOX made both UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones say nice things about their upcoming opponent.
“He’s a great competitor. I think he raised to challenges. I think the things that he has done in his career are pretty outstanding,” Cormier said about Jones. “But those are where the compliments end.”
“At the end of the day, we’re both elite competitors and that’s what makes us have such disdain for each other. I’m a student of his lifestyle. He’s been a big part of my life for the last two years. I think he’s a tremendous person outside of the ring,” Jones said about Cormier.
“I know that doesn’t sell fight tickets. He seems to be a hard working man, in the Octagon, outside the Octagon, a loyal husband, a loyal father, a wrestling coach, a team captain. He’s a very respectable person, but unfortunately, we’re competing against each other, and you can’t be apologetic about your level of intensity when it comes to winning.”
Cormier will defend his title against Jones in the main event of UFC 214 on July 29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
