Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) top lightweight contender Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov has been having some issues getting into the octagon as of late. The fighter was set to face off against fellow top contender Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight title at UFC 209. However, Nurmagomedov suffered weight management issues prior to the event. Hours before the night’s fight, “The Eagle” was rushed to the hospital. Now, it would appear that Nurmagomedov has turned down a rescheduled fight with Tony Ferguson for the interim title.
Aaron Bronsteter took to Twitter to reveal, “Khabib tells @Denis26rt he was offered Ferguson for the interim title at UFC 216, but wanted more time to prepare. Wants to fight at UFC 217.”
It would appear that Ferguson and Nurmagomedov will not be meeting at UFC 216.
