A sports business insider for ESPN is predicting the highly anticipated boxing match between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor will break the record for pay-per-view buys.
Darren Rovell, of ESPN, is projecting that the boxing match will sell between 4.6 and 4.7 million pay-per-views.
Mayweather’s fight against Manny Pacquiao currently holds the record for the most pay-per-view sells in history. Their fight sold around 4.4 million pay-per-views. No other pay-per-view event in history has even come close to 3 million buys.
Rovell suggested that tickets for the event will be at average more than $3,000. Rovell believes the gate for the event will be around $70 million.
Rovell also suggested that the Mayweather vs. McGregor will cost about $100 to purchase on pay-per-view. He also said there is a possibility of the fight costing $125.
Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place Saturday, August 25 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
