UFC fans will have to wait quite awhile to see the return of former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez.
With there not being any clear top contenders in the UFC heavyweight division, Velasquez is a top choice to fight UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic.
However, Ariel Helwani, of MMA Fighting, recently revealed Velasquez is still suffering from an injury and may not be able to return until the end of 2017.
Velasquez has not fought in over a year. In his last fight, Velasquez defeated Travis Browne by TKO back at UFC 200.
Velasquez was scheduled to fight former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum back in December. However, Velasquez revealed he was suffering from a back injury during an interview and was later forced to withdraw from the fight.
Velasquez has struggled with injuries for the past few years. He only fought once in 2015 and 2016 and did not fight at all in 2014, due to injuries.
Not at the moment. That fight has been discussed but Velasquez isn’t healthy yet. End year maybe but nothing close to done. Vert TBD. https://t.co/6vLZ670Ys5
