Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Anderson Silva was initially set to face off against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 212, which took place in Rio de Janeiro.. However, Gastelum was flagged for a potential anti-doping policy violation and the fight was pulled. Now it would appear that a previous opponent of Anderson Silva may have been offered the fight in place of Gastelum.
Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman has taken on and defeated Anderson “The Spider” Silva on two occasions. The two mixed martial artists squared off at UFC 162 and UFC 168. Weidman earned a victory over his opponent on both occasions.
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Weidman explained that he was offered a trilogy fight against Anderson Silva in Rio de Janeiro. However, the fighter was not interested in taking a fight short notice.
