Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight and SBG Ireland teammate Gunnar Nelson recently suffered a first round knockout in the main event of UFC Fight Night 113.
UFC Fight Night 113 went down over the weekend, with Gunnar Nelson facing off against Santiago Ponzinibbio in the night’s main event. Gunnar Nelson suffered a flurry of strikes from his opponent, ultimately earning Ponzinibbio a knockout victory in the first round. However, Nelson later revealed that he believes illegal eye pokes played a role in his defeat.
SBG Ireland head coach John Kavanagh has now come forward with his thoughts on the fight. “Doubt it was gameplan or intentional but try having depth perception after getting fingers shoved in eyes repeatedly.” Kavanagh stated over Twitter.
Alongside the statement, the head coach provided a video highlighting the eye pokes Gunnar Nelson received during the fight.
