Retired boxing phenom Paul Malignaggi appears to have gotten into a heated argument with Glory commentator Joseph Valtellini. The two fighting phenoms took to Twitter to hash things out.
Paul Malignaggi recently revealed that he will be a sparring partner for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Conor “Notorious” McGregor. The UFC champion is gearing up to face off against Floyd Mayweather Jr. inside a boxing ring on Aug. 26 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
However, Paul Malignaggi recently entered a quite heated debate over proper sparring practices with Glory’s own Joseph Valtellini. The Twitter discussion may be viewed below.
I dunno what kinda pussy ass sparring u done in your life but all championship camps are sparring where u r trying to KO n hurt 1 another. https://t.co/gMSNW73O3V

That's not even close to true. Great way to shorten career and get punchdrunk.. but hey ur "hardcore" right? https://t.co/klyJlucJS7

Anyone who headhunts at fullpower in sparring is an idiot. Real athletes can spar max speed with minimum power. Extend your career and brain
— Joseph Valtellini (@BazookaJoeV) July 23, 2017
Very petty of you Joseph, we all have our ways but the majority see it my way. I and most Champs I know did it that way all our careers https://t.co/CRBLE1CWQp

We also used to play football and hockey with no helmets. We know more about brain now and evolve training accordingly. Stuck in the past https://t.co/ISz5YfYPrn

If it's petty for me to try and educate and protect future athletes from brain trauma then I guess I'm petty @PaulMalignaggi

The intensity of a fight if not mimicked in sparring will cause u to fold when the heat turns up in a tough fight. https://t.co/yKRbDaxSiQ
— Paul Malignaggi (@PaulMalignaggi) July 23, 2017
Every KO makes u more susceptible to another. Getting them in training kills ur chin and shortens career. Can have speed without the power https://t.co/NwsU7uTO3V
— Joseph Valtellini (@BazookaJoeV) July 23, 2017
But if you're looking to avoid head trauma a career in table tennis might suit u, intensity in sparring is so mentally ur mind adapts to it. https://t.co/yKRbDaxSiQ
— Paul Malignaggi (@PaulMalignaggi) July 23, 2017
Ur mind can't adapt to concussions. The brain doesn't repair like a muscle. Every concussion is perm damage. Save for ring https://t.co/44NZwr9t47
— Joseph Valtellini (@BazookaJoeV) July 23, 2017
Agreed, that's why u spar according to the level u r at, if you're a novice u spar novices then not killers but intensity need 2 prepare. https://t.co/9OX8U2LvuR
— Paul Malignaggi (@PaulMalignaggi) July 23, 2017
Paul ur an all time great you know that you can spar full speed without headhunting your opponent. https://t.co/tDDrIcs6mT

So our Sicilian stubbornness is not gonna get us to agree here is it? Lol
— Joseph Valtellini (@BazookaJoeV) July 23, 2017
Its not that, it's just I've known that without getting used to the intensity and discomfort in Camp I could not summon it up on fight night https://t.co/HSylaXmIf3
— Paul Malignaggi (@PaulMalignaggi) July 23, 2017
I fully respect @PaulMalignaggi and his career. I'm just passionate about brain trauma cuz of the mistakes I made that shortened my career https://t.co/ZHrP8yshfT
