MMA reporter Ariel Helwani, of MMA Fighting, says he hasn’t been banned from asking questions at UFC press conferences.
On Wednesday, the UFC held a pre-fight press conference for UFC 214.
Helwani was in attendance but did not ask any questions. Someone later asked Helwani, on Twitter, why he didn’t ask a question during the press conference.
“I tried,” Helwani said. “Asked for the mic early on, by the time I was on deck they wrapped.”
It appeared UFC President Dana White wrapped up the press conference right as Helwani was about to ask a question.
It’s no secret the UFC is not a fan of Helwani. The promotion briefly revoked his credentials last year. Also, earlier this month, the UFC had Helwani removed from doing coverage for Showtime. He was going to cover the press conferences for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing match.
After MMA Imports reported on Helwani not being able to ask questions at the press conference, Helwani clarified that he is not banned from asking questions at UFC press conferences even though the UFC didn’t allow him to on Wednesday.

This story is 100% not true. Jake and all the fighters tweeting these nonsense links are better than this. https://t.co/4E9QrLnVDC
