Referee Herb Dean had to get physical with a fighter in order to get him to release his submission hold.
On Wednesday, at an ACB event in Turkey, Anzor Shakhmurzaev defeated Murat Kilimetov with a standing guillotine choke.
Killimetov did not submit to the submission hold but was choked unconscious instead.
When Dean told Shakhmurzaev the fight was over, he didn’t immediately release the submission hold. Dean almost had to lock on a rear-naked choke of his own in order to get the fighters to release the submission.
In the video below, you can see the finish to this fight and see Dean get physical with the winner.
This marked the fourth win of Shakhmurzaev’s MMA career and was his first win by submission. Shakhmurzaev has fought five times with all of his fights taking place in the ACB promotion.
