UFC commentator Joe Rogan once appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter to debate the difference between MMA and boxing.
In 2007, Rogan debated boxing promoter Lou DiBella. During their debate, Rogan discussed why MMA was more exciting than boxing. He also said boxing was a dying sport and the sport wouldn’t be able to produce more stars after their current stars retired.
DiBella argued that boxing and MMA were like apples and oranges. He also referred to MMA as human cockfighting.
In the end, Rogan appeared to have the better argument. Rogan showed to have a better understanding of both boxing and MMA, while DiBella seemed to be threatened by the UFC’s success and didn’t think it was as good of a sport as boxing.
In the video below, you can watch the entire debate take place on ESPN. You can also hear comments on the topic from Floyd “Money” Mayweather and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell.
