Overeem Went From MMA To Win The K-1 Grand Prix, Handicaps Conor’s Chances vs. Floyd

While many analysts don’t give UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor much of a chance in his professional boxing debut, fighters in the past have been successful in more than just one fighting technique.

McGregor is scheduled to make his boxing debut against Floyd “Money” Mayweather on Aug. 26.

UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem is a fighter who has found success in two different combat sports. Not only is he one of the best MMA fighters in the world, but he was also one of the best kickboxers in the world at one time.

“Everyone has an opinion about this fight. Some love it some hate it. Some think it will be a walkover for Floyd others think Conor will shock the world,” Overeem wrote on his Instagram page.

“Nevertheless it’s a fight of the two biggest combat athlete of this moment so it would be crazy not to watch it. For the people that are saying that Conor doesn’t have a chance; I came over as an MMA fighter to the K-1 and faced Badr Hari in my first big K-1 fight and most people said it was impossible to win. ‘Nothing is impossible, the word itself says I’m possible.'”
