On Saturday, an amateur MMA fighter passed away after his fight in Louisville, Kentucky.
At Hardrock MMA 90, Donshay White fought Ricky Muse in a heavyweight bout during the preliminary portion of the card.
Muse defeated White by TKO just minutes into the second round.
After the loss, White struggled to regain his composure inside the cage.
The promoter, Gary Thomas, later revealed White had collapsed when they were finally able to get him backstage. White was then taken to a local hospital facility where he passed away.
White was just 37 at the time of his death. He had just begun his MMA career. He had one previous amateur fight, which he won in 2015.
The Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Commission said in a statement that they are reviewing details of this tragic incident. After the fight, a licensed physician and first responders treated White, but that wasn’t enough to save his life.
