On Saturday, the UFC held its debut show in Long Island, New York with a UFC on FOX event.
The event was headlined by former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman fighting Kelvin Gastelum in a must-win situation.
Weidman was going into Saturday’s main event on a three-fight losing streak. He was coming off knockout or TKO losses to Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero, and Gegard Mousasi.
In the first round of Saturday’s main event, it appeared Weidman was about to lose against after he was dropped by Gastelum. However, Weidman recovered and went on to dominate the rest of the fight.
In round three, Weidman managed to get the fight to the ground and submitted Gastelum with an arm triangle. This was the first loss Gastelum has suffered as a middleweight.
