Recently, a young woman competed in an MMA fight wearing a hijab.
Earlier this year, Samaneh Kazemi wore a hijab during her fight with Umutkan Aitiev in a fight in the Armenian Fighting Championship promotion.
Kazemi went on to lose a decision to Aitiev, who used her superior striking ability to secure herself the win.

This was Kazemi’s MMA debut. She is 25 years old and is from the country of Iran. She is currently competing in the bantamweight division.
While it is important to honor her religion, one must also think about what impact a hijab would have in an MMA fight. While this promotion allowed her to wear her hijab, it would be interesting to see how bigger MMA promotions would respond to this situation.
