Robert Whittaker Knows He’s Good, Isn’t Trying To Fill Mark Hunt’s Shoes Though

UFC middleweight contender Robert Whittaker is confident that he will win the Interim UFC Middleweight Championship in his next fight.

However, Whittaker also knows he lives in the shadow of UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt when it comes to being the most popular fighter from New Zealand.

“Those are shoes too big to fill,” Whittaker said about Hunt. “Mark Hunt is an icon. I love him to death. He’s such a good fighter and such a good person. If I can get anywhere near his popularity, I’ll be well accomplished.”

On July 8, at UFC 213, Whittaker will fight Yoel Romero to crown an interim champion in the UFC middleweight division.

Whittaker is unbeaten as a middleweight. He is currently on a seven-fight win streak in the UFC.

In his last fight, Whittaker earned the biggest win of his career when he defeated Ronald “Jacare” Souza by TKO back in April. Whittaker’s win streak also includes wins over Derek Brunson, Rafael Natal, and Uriah Hall.
