On Saturday, UFC International Fight Week came to its conclusion with UFC 213.
Despite the main event between UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko being canceled just hours before the event, the UFC still hosted a full night of intriguing matchups.
The FOX Sports 1 prelims opened with a welterweight battle between Jordan Mein and Belal Muhammad.
Both fighters exchanged kicks to start the fight. Muhammad went for a takedown, but couldn’t get Mein off of his feet. Mein continued to attack the legs in the opening round. Muhammad struggled to land his strikes. Muhammad went for another takedown, but Mein stuffed it. Mein began to land jabs along with his leg kicks. In the final minute, Muhammad went for another takedown, but couldn’t get the fight to the ground. However, Muhammad held Mein against the cage and began landing knees and elbows.
Mein went right back to his leg kicks to start the middle round. Muhammad started to have more success with his punches and kicks. He went for another takedown, but once again failed. Muhammad kept his grip and finally got the fight to the ground, but Mein easily got back to his feet. Mein continued to attack the legs, while Muhammad had success with his punches. Muhammad, later on, got Mein up against the cage. At the end of the round, Muhammad got the fight to the round and finished the round on top.
Muhammad went for a takedown early in the final round, but Mein stayed on his feet. Mein went for a kimura, which allowed Muhammad to get the fight to the ground. Muhammad took Mein’s back. Mein got to his feet, but he couldn’t break Muhammad’s grip. Later, Mein earned a takedown of his own, but Muhammad got back up. The fight ended with Mein trying to get a takedown.
