During media day for this year’s UFC International Fight Week, some fighters were asked whether or not they will pay to watch UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor fight Floyd “Money” Mayweather in a boxing match.
While the price tag for Mayweather vs. McGregor has yet to be announced, it is expected that the event will cost somewhere around $100. This is the price Mayweather’s fight with Manny Pacquiao was sold on pay-per-view.
“No. No way!,” UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes said about buying the Mayweather vs. McGregor pay-per-view. “I can go somewhere (to watch it).”
“Hell no! For a hundred dollars? I’m not buying it,” UFC lightweight prospect Justin Gaethje said.
“It’s like everybody (will) pay $100 to watch MMA and boxing go at it. I’m damn for sure not paying for it,” UFC lightweight Michael Johnson said. “They both win! (Expletive), they’re getting that much money, who cares if one of them loses?”
While some fighters think it’s crazy to spend that amount of money to watch a fight, other fighters are willing to pay to watch one of the most historic fights in combat sports history.
“I’m definitely going to buy it. It’s huge to me,” UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem said.
“I was hoping that the fight would come through, expecting it to come through. You never know what’s going to happen in that fight. I was very pleased to see the news of a multi-city tour. They’re both gentlemen and it’s going to be great entertainment. I can’t wait.”
