Glasgow, Scotland played host to the UFC’s latest Fight Night event on Sunday afternoon.
In the co-main event, Team Alpha Male’s Cynthia Calvillo fought her toughest challenge to date when she fought strawweight contender Joanne Calderwood.
Calderwood landed a body kick early in the first round. Calvillo responded with shooting for a takedown, but it was unsuccessful. Calderwood continued to attack with kicks. Calvillo was very active and switched up her attacks with punches and kicks. Calvillo got a takedown at the end of the round. She took Calderwood’s back, but Calderwood rolled over. Calvillo then went for an armbar but she ran out of time.
Both women traded kicks to start the fight. Calderwood threw more volume earlier in the round. Calderwood briefly dropped Calvillo with a push kick. Calvillo managed to bust Calderwood open with a punch to the nose. Calvillo went for another takedown, but Calderwood didn’t go down. Calderwood then landed a spinning back fist. The round ended with both women swinging.
Calderwood once again used kicks are her primary offense to start the final round. Calvillo went for a takedown, but Calderwood stopped it. Calvillo appeared to be the fresher fighter but Calderwood continued to land kicks. In the final minute, Calvillo went for another takedown, but Calderwood pushed it off. In the final 30 seconds, Calvillo got the fight to the ground and took Calderwood’s back. She went for a rear-naked choke but ran out of time.
