UFC 213 suffered a loss to its fight card when UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes pulled herself from the main event match against Valentina Shevchenko due to health issues. It was later revealed that Nunes was cleared by the UFC medical staff to compete, however Nunes was adamant that she was not feeling well.
Now, Valentina Shevchenko has come forward with her thoughts on the situation. In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Shevchenko explained that she is not buying in to Nunes’ claims.
“I do not 100 percent believe that it is true. She is trying to say that it was like medical, because of her illness.” Shevchenko stated.
“Even in the weigh-ins she was saying, ‘I’m ready for this fight.'” Shevchenko noted, before pointing out that Nunes did not seem to communicate that she was ill until hours before their fight.
“I would not be surprised that if the UFC gives us another date for the fight, she turns down the fight in the same moment.” Shevchenko said.
