ARP Tells NSAC To Deny Smaller Gloves Request For #MayMac

The Nevada State Athletic Commission has been asked to not allow Floyd “Money” Mayweather and UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor to fight in eight-ounce gloves.

This week, the NSAC will vote on whether or not they will allow Mayweather and McGregor to fight in smaller gloves.

Since Mayweather vs. McGregor will be taking place at 154 pounds, they are required to fight in 10-ounce gloves, but both fighters have shown interest in fighting in smaller gloves.

On Tuesday, Association of Ringside Physicians released a statement asking the NSAC to not allow the fighters to wear smaller gloves.

The Association of Ringside Physicians understands that consideration is being given to amend current regulations, and in so doing, permit the use of 8oz Gloves in the forthcoming boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. This is a bout that has already been set a specific weight class. Unless there is scientific evidence to support the view that such a change might improve the safety of this bout, we would strongly caution against allowing current regulation to be over-ruled. To do so would also set a precent for future bouts.

Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place Aug. 26 in Las Vegas.
