Boxing Royalty Rocky Marciano Jr. Says Floyd Undeserving Of 50-0 Record With Win Over McGregor

The son of legendary boxer Rocky Marciano doesn’t believe Floyd “Money” Mayweather’s record should increase to 50-0 if he is victorious this weekend.

On Saturday, Mayweather is putting his perfect 49-0 record on the line against UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.

Marciano’s legendary boxing career ended with a perfect 49-0 record. When Mayweather retired almost two years ago, it was a goal of his to match Marciano’s record.

Now that Mayweather may break Marciano’s record, Rocky Marcino Jr. has come out and said Mayweather is undeserving of a 50th win if he does it against McGregor.

No matter what happens, I don’t think it should go towards Mayweather’s professional career, win or lose,” Marciano Jr. told USA Today. “This fight to me isn’t a true boxing match.”

Marciano Jr. also said his father’s boxing record is more impressive than Mayweather’s due to him fighting in the heavyweight division.

“Heavyweights, most of them, hold the highest knockout percentage for a reason,” Marciano Jr. said. “They’re bigger, they’re stronger and one punch can take a heavyweight out.

“So it’s a lot more difficult to stay undefeated than it is for someone in the lower weight class, where it can be more of a type of match where you’re just outpointing your opponent.”

McGregor will be making his professional boxing debut when he steps into the ring with Mayweather. The fight will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
