Conor Explains Why His Fight Was Stopped Early, Thinks Ref Should Have Let Him Fight

UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor believes the referee stopped his fight with Floyd “Money” Mayweather too early.

On Saturday, McGregor made his professional boxing debut when he fought Mayweather. McGregor looked good throughout the fight, and looked like the better boxer is some of the early rounds.

As the fight went on, Mayweather gained momentum. In round 10, Mayweather unloaded punches on McGregor that resulted in the referee stepping in and stopping the fight.

During the post-fight press conference, McGregor said he wished the fight would have gone on longer.

“I would have liked to see the end of the 10th,” McGregor said. I think fatigue, it’s like a patch, there is a patch in the middle of fights. Even in the Diaz two fight, I have this patch where I get wobbly, but it’s more fatigue. If you look at the Diaz two fight, I got through that and came back in round four, round five.”

McGregor went on to say that he respects the referee’s decision and thinks he did a good job.

“I do feel it was a little bit early, but I respect his decision. I thought that he did an amazing job. I think he let the fight flow where it needed to flow,” McGregor said.
