UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis has shared his thoughts on UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones failing another drug test.
On Wednesday, Lewis said he believes Jones may have been set up because he doesn’t think the UFC champion would be dumb enough to take a performance-enhancing drug.
“I think Jones was set up because I’m sure he’s not that stupid,” Lewis said on Twitter.
It was revealed on Tuesday that Jones had failed an in-competition drug test prior to his fight with Daniel Cormier last month. The sample that caused in the failed test results was taken after the weigh-ins for his fight at UFC 214.
As a result of this failed drug test, Jones win over Cormier may be overturned. It is also likely Jones will once again be stripped of his title. Also, USADA may suspend Jones for four year due to this being his second failed test.
Lewis is scheduled to fight former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 216 on Oct. 7 in Las Vegas.
