Floyd Vows To Ditch His “Defensive Style” And Go After The Finish vs. McGregor

Floyd “Money” Mayweather says he has to be more offensive in his upcoming fight against UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor.

Mayweather is widely considered to be the greatest defensive boxer of all time, but during an interview with ESPN, Mayweather said he can’t be defensive in his fight with McGregor.

“This can’t be a defensive fight,” Mayweather said. “I have to go to him.”

After being retired for almost two years, Mayweather is returning to the sport of boxing to fight the UFC champion in his professional boxing debut.

During the lead-up to the fight, McGregor has crossed the line when it comes to racial remarks. During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, McGregor referred the movie “Rocky 3” as the movie with all the monkeys dancing around the gym. Many people found this offensive because in “Rocky 3” Rocky trains at an all-black gym.

“I just didn’t like when he called us monkeys,” Mayweather said. “I think that was totally disrespect.… He called us monkeys. I didn’t like it. It didn’t push a button to make me jump out of my character and go crazy, but I didn’t like it.”

Mayweather vs. McGregor will take place Aug. 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
