Ariel Helwani, of MMA Fighting, has revealed that Nate Diaz is the front runner to fight UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor in his next fight.
When someone on Twitter suggested UFC lightweight contender Tony Ferguson should be next for McGregor, Helwani responded by saying Diaz is the UFC’s top choice to fight McGregor as of right now.
“Diaz currently the front-runner for CM but there’s a long way to go,” Helwani wrote on Twitter.
It has been just over a year since the last time McGregor and Diaz met inside the Octagon. Diaz and McGregor have fought each other twice in the UFC, and both fighters managed to earn a victory.
At UFC 196, in March 2016, Diaz shocked the world when he submitted McGregor with a rear-naked choke. To this day, Diaz is the only fighter to defeat McGregor inside the Octagon.
At UFC 202, last August, McGregor won a decision against Diaz in their rematch.
So would I. They are both Michigan, but alas, they had nothing else. Diaz currently the front-runner for CM but there's a long way to go. https://t.co/4pLZxJC1MV
