The return of UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones appears to have pulled in a massive amount of pay-per-view buys.
UFC 214 took place this Saturday, and in the main event, Jones fought Daniel Cormier for the UFC 205-pound title. In the third round, Jones regained the UFC title after knocking out Cormier.
For the past few years, Jones and Cormier have been involved in one of the most heated rivalries in all of MMA. This rivalry appears to have led to a lot of pay-per-view buys.
After UFC 214, UFC President Dana White suggested the event was trending towards one million buys, which is way larger than anyone was expecting. If White is correct, UFC 214 will, by far, be the most successful pay-per-view event for the UFC so far in 2017.
Dave Meltzer, of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, has also reported that UFC 214 is trending well when it comes to pay-per-view numbers, but it is way too early to receive official numbers.
