If UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones were to fight former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, it wouldn’t happen for quite awhile.
Dave Meltzer, of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, has reported that if Jones and Lesnar were to meet inside the Octagon, it most likely wouldn’t happen until next summer.
Both Jones and Lesnar have said they are interested in fighting each other, but Lesnar’s current suspension and deal with the WWE make it where he can’t fight anytime soon.
Lesnar was given a one-year suspension following his failed drug test for UFC 200 last July. During his suspension, Lesnar retired from the sport, which put his suspension on hold. In order to return to the UFC, Lesnar must undergo six months of testing from the U.S Anti-Doping Agency.
Lesnar has yet to enter the USADA testing pool, but even if he did today, he wouldn’t be cleared to compete until the beginning of next year, which is the WWE’s biggest time of year.
Even though the WWE allowed Lesnar to fight in the UFC last year, the wrestling promotion wouldn’t allow one of their top stars to miss WrestleMania in order to fight in the UFC. Lesnar’s contract with the WWE expires after WrestleMania, which will take place in April.
