Boxing referee Joe Cortez has shared more information regarding the sparring sessions between UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi.
Cortez joined McGregor’s training camps in order to make sure the UFC champion understands all the rules of boxing.
Malignaggi also briefly joined McGregor’s team to help him prepare for his professional boxing debut against Floyd “Money” Mayweather.
After their second sparring session, Malignaggi left McGregor’s training camp because he wasn’t happy with photos being released of McGregor landing shots on him.
Recently, Cortez was asked about the sparring session since he was the third man in the ring.
“It was a tough day of sparring,” Cortez said. “It was very difficult for both fighters. It was like a real war in there.
“It was a tough sparring session. It was like a real fight.”
McGregor will fight Mayweather on Saturday, August 26 in Las Vegas.
