Former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo has his eyes set on his next challenge in the UFC.
In an interview with MMA Fighting, Aldo revealed that he is interested in fighting featherweight contender Cub Swanson.
“Yes, Cub is an option,” Aldo said. “I think the ranking continues the same, there’s nowhere to run. Cub is well ranked, especially to be a challenge for me. Frankie (Edgar) will probably fight Max, so we can fight and a new contender will emerge.”
In his last fight, Aldo lost his UFC title after losing to current UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway by TKO in June at UFC 212.
Swanson is currently ranked No. 4 in the official UFC featherweight rankings. He is currently on a four-fight win streak in the UFC with victories over Hacran Dias, Tatsuya Kawajiri, Doo Ho Choi, and Artem Lobov.
Aldo and Swanson fought back in 2009 in the WEC promotion. Aldo won after landing a flying knee that, to this day, is shown on Aldo’s highlight reel.
“Both athletes changed a lot (since that fight),” Aldo said. “It will be a new fight, a new story. I respect everything he’s been doing in the UFC, and we have to train a lot to face a really tough opponent.”
