Next week, Martin Nguyen will fight for the ONE Welterweight Championship.
In the main event of ONE Championship: Quest for Greatness, Nguyen will fight ONE Welterweight Champion Marat Gafurov.
In the lead-up to the fight, Nguyen talked about his journey to his title opportunity.
“I’m fighting for the ONE Championship featherweight title. As a kid, we had it tough. We pushed through as a family. Going to school seeing kids having toys that your parents couldn’t afford made us strong mentally. Having come from nothing does build character. It makes you work for stuff you want and you will eventually get.
“Martial arts come with a lot of discipline. What it means to me the most is being able to push myself to pass the uncomfortable limit. I love the competition of martial arts. It helps me better myself mentally and emotionally.”
ONE Championship: Quest for Greatness will take place Aug. 18 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
