Retired boxer Paulie Malignaggi has revealed the truth behind the rumors of UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor getting knocked out during training.
Last month, professional boxer Jessie Vargas said McGregor got knocked out during a training session.
During a recent interview, Malignaggi revealed that the story was false because McGregor was not sparing the time Vargas said he got knocked out.
“That was all B.S stuff,” Malignaggi said. “When the reports started to come out he was just returning from the press tour in Europe. The person, Jessie Vargas, who said he saw Conor get knocked out it’s physically impossible to do that because Conor arrived in Las Vegas that Saturday.”
Malignaggi says reports coming out of McGregor getting knocked out started coming out the following Sunday, and the UFC champion had not sparred during that time frame.
Malignaggi was brought in as a training partner to help McGregor prepare for his professional boxing debut against Floyd “Money” Mayweather. However, Malignaggi has since left McGregor’s training camp after being upset over photos leaking of him and McGregor sparring.
