While in Mexico, Justin Buchholz, the head coach of Team Alpha Male, was almost robbed by police officers.
Last weekend, Buchholz traveled to Mexico City to corner Team Alpha Male fighters as they competed at a UFC Fight Night.
The night before the fight, Buchholz was detained outside of his hotel for over two hours. Buchholz admitted that he and his companions were smoking cannabidiol (CBD).
The police officers tested Buchholz by smelling his fingers and breath. After testing Buchholz, the police said they would let him go if he gave them money.
“Two and a half hours go by, the dude starts off saying he wants 5,500 pesos,” Buchholz said. “I’m being kidnapped and held hostage for the stinky finger test.
“Just because they are in uniform, and have guns, and a police siren, and two cops cars, it makes you think that the authority of a government is here, because you’re conditioned to respect that, but these were just four banditos (expletive) trying to rob me.”
Luckily for Buchholz, his hotel staff argued with the police officers and tried to get them to leave their guests alone. After over two hours of arguing outside of the hotel, the police eventually gave up and let Buchholz and everyone else back to their hotel.
Team Alpha Male had mixed results the next night at the UFC Fight Night event. TAM’s Joseph Morales remained undefeated when he submitted Roberto Sanchez in his UFC debut. One of TAM’s top prospects, Hector Sandoval, got caught by Dustin Ortiz early in the fight and lost by knockout.
In the video below, you can listen to Buchholz tell the story of his incident with Mexican police.
