The rivalry between lightweight contenders Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov continues to get more heated.
On Thursday night, Nurmagomedov’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, sent out a message on social media claiming Ferguson refused to wait for a fight with Nurmagomedov because he knew he couldn’t beat him.
Ferguson responded to Abdelaziz by insulting him and saying Nurmagomedov turned down two fights against him.
“Your A Joke (Ali Abdelaziz) & Horrible Mgr,” Ferguson said in a tweet directed at Abdelaziz. (UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby) Offered (Khabib Nurmagomedov) To Fight Me In Nov & Oct. U Turned Both Down. Lying 2 Save Face.”
Ferguson is scheduled to fight fellow lightweight contender Kevin Lee for an interim title at UFC 216 on Oct. 7 in Las Vegas.
Despite being ranked No. 1 in the official UFC lightweight rankings, Nurmagomedov is not involved in the next lightweight title fight. Injuries and illness have kept him out of the Octagon for the majority of the past few years. Since 2014, Nurmagomedov has only fought three times in the UFC.
