The UFC returned to Mexico City on Saturday night with a Fight Night event filled with up-and-coming fighters trying to make a name for themselves on MMA’s biggest stage.
The main card opened with a bantamweight battle between Alejandro Perez and Andre Soukhamthath.
Perez started the fight with a leg kick. Soukhamthath responded with landing a few punching combinations. Both fighters began having success landing punches. Soukhamthath dropped Perez with a left hand, but Perez got back to his feet. Perez then landed multiple leg kicks. Perez went for a takedown but wasn’t able to get the fight to the ground. On their feet, both fighters landed shots. Soukhamthath dropped Perez again with a jab. Perez went for another takedown, but once again wasn’t able to get the fight to the ground. The round ended with Perez landing leg kicks and swinging punches.
The second round ended with both fighters landing offense. Perez was the more active fighter at the start of the round. Soukhamthath dropped Perez again with a jab. Perez got to his feet and both fighters threw punches. Soukhamthath landed a strong punch of the body and began taunting his opponent. Perez then dropped his opponent with a right hand. Perez then jumped on top and secured top position on the ground. Soukhamthath managed to get to his feet and landed a punch. Both fighters traded punches to finish the round.
Both fighters came out swinging to start the final round. Perez shot for a takedown, but Soukhamthath stayed on his feet. Perez later went for a spinning back fist and continued to land leg kicks. Perez landed a takedown in the final two minutes of the fight. Soukhamthath fought his way back to his feet. In the final minute, Perez went for another takedown to no avail. Both fighters then traded wild punches in the final seconds.
