Amanda Nunes Calls Co-Main Event Slot Under “Mighty Mouse” A “Punishment” From The UFC

UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes believes she is being punished by the UFC by being put in the co-main event at UFC 215.

On Sept. 9, Nunes will defend her title against Valentina Shevchenko. In the main event of UFC 215, UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson will defend his championship against Ray Borg.

Nunes believes she is being punished by the UFC for what happened in July. The day she was scheduled to fight in the main event of UFC 213, Nunes withdrew from her title defense against Shevchenko due to illness.

On Thursday, during a media conference call, Nunes was asked if she thought being put in the co-main event of UFC 215 was a punishment for what happened at UFC 213.

“I feel they’re punishing me for sure,” Nunes said.

Regardless, Nunes says she will not compete any different when she defends her title against Shevchenko in the co-main event on Sept. 9.

“Whatever Dana White says he’s going to do, you know,” Nunes said. “It could’ve been the main event or the first of the card, I would still fight the same. I’m going to step in the cage, defend my belt – co-main event, I don’t have any problem with that. I’m going to keep my belt, walk away, go home, drink some beer, and enjoy time with my girlfriend, my friends, and my family.”
